Foul Weather Policy

FOUL WEATHER PROCEDURE
Games will only be postponed due to inclement weather at the time of the game or poor field conditions. Inclement weather is defined as thunder or lightning in the area, threat of tornado, or severe rain/wind. Light rain or wet fields will not be cause for postponement. The referee assigned to each game will have final authority to postpone the individual game due to inclement weather. Postponement of an individual game by the referee has no bearing on the play or postponement of any other games. Poor field conditions are defined as conditions which pose a threat to the safety of the players or which pose a risk of severe damage to the field which would render it unusable for a significant period of time. It is the responsibility of the age coordinator of each age group to evaluate the conditions of the fields for their age group throughout every day of play. The age coordinator has final authority for postponing games due to poor field conditions, and this may occur at the beginning of the day or at any point during the day. In the event that the age coordinator is unable to be present to assess field conditions, it is their responsibility to designate another member of the executive committee to be responsible for these duties. If an individual game is postponed due to inclement weather, it is the responsibility of the home team coach to notify the age coordinator so that the game can be rescheduled. If an age coordinator or their designee postpones play for the day due to field conditions, it is their responsibility to notify the personnel at the front desk of the YMCA of the age group whose play has been suspended. If the YMCA personnel have not been specifically notified by an age coordinator or their designee that play has been cancelled for the day due to field conditions, they should tell anyone who inquires to report to the playing field ready to play at the scheduled game time. If the YMCA has been specifically notified by an age coordinator or their designee that play has been cancelled for the day for a specific age group, they should tell anyone who inquires that play has been postponed. The coaches of any postponed game will be contacted by the age coordinator to reschedule games in this event. Postponement of play for one specific age group due to field conditions has no bearing on the play or postponement of games for any other age group. Again, postponement of an individual game by the referee due to inclement weather has no bearing on the play or postponement of any other games. Finally, the Y Liaison is also empowered to assess weather conditions at the time a game is to be played as well as field conditions and postpone play for the same reasons outlined above. In this case, the Y Liaison will notify the same personnel outlined above of the postponement. Also, if they postpone play for the day due to field conditions, they will notify the age coordinator whose age group has been postponed.
